This area enables you to upload and manage all of the images that you will use, for example: logos, navigation buttons, product photos and so on.
Operational Tip: TecknaShop offer three resources to obtain useful images.
http://www.clickandbuild.net/imagelib.html (free web graphics designed by TecknaShop to help with the construction of your store they include products, backgrounds and navigation buttons).
http://www.graphicsplanet.com (purchasable web graphics suitable for a TecknaShop store they include backgrounds, buttons, icons, tiles, bars, splashes and photo clip-art).
http://photostore.co.uk:8000 (purchasable photos suitable for a TecknaShop store).
Image folders (or libraries) are used to organise your images and have to be defined prior to uploading images. It is recommended that one folder be exclusive for images that will be used throughout your store (for example. Sitewide or Generic) and for each of the product categories that have been defined there is a separate image folder. This recommendation does not have to be followed as you could for example put all of your images into one folder instead, but it does make later maintenance easier as your store evolves and grows and changes need to be made.
Adding a folder
Click the Add
folder button, to enter the add folder menu, enter your new folder's name,
then click either the Store
and Add another folder button or the Store
and Return to Menu button to store the new folder.
View / Edit a folder
Once the folder has been defined; you can View/Edit
the contents of the folder. The edit menu enables you to change the folder's
name or delete previously uploaded images. When deleting, a confirm
checkbox is displayed in order to avoid accidental deletions. To delete
an image, this box needs to be checked before the delete button becomes
effective.
Operational Tip: Deleting multiple images from a folder is not possible in one action although you can delete the entire folder. Use of additional image folders will allow you greater control of your image library.
Deleting a folder
In the folder options menu select the folder name that you wish to delete
from the drop down list. Check the confirm checkbox and click the Delete button.
In the Folder Options menu, select the folder to take the new image from the drop down list then click the Add Image button, this will take you to the Add Image menu. Click the Browse button to search for the image to be added. When you have selected the image click the Open button to upload your image to the image library. Note: TecknaShop supports JPG, GIF and PNG image.
You can use the Description field to add a description to the image; this makes your Image Reporting more descriptive and provides the image with an ALT text message, which appears when your shoppers’ mouse runs over the image in their browser. If you don’t enter a description, the file name is used as the description by default.
When the details are complete click either the Add and return to Add Image button or the Add and return to menu button to add the image to the folder.
In addition to single image files, TecknaShop will upload Zip files containing many images. This can speed up the Image set up process enormously. To upload a Zip file, click the Browse button to search for the appropriate Zip file on your computer or network, click the Open button, check the Zip Archive checkbox and click either the Add and return to Add Image button or the Add and return to menu button
Once the file has been uploaded it is automatically unzipped, and the folder is populated with the images. Dependent on the number of images within the Zip file, a response to clicking Add could take some time. Note: If you enter a description, it will be used for all the images from the zip file, however, for each image the description label changes by allocating a number suffix. Should you wish to find out more about Zip archiving software, contact your TecknaShop supplier, or visit http://www.winzip.com.
Uploaded images can be viewed, modified (detail only), overwritten or deleted from this menu. You can select an image to edit by either the image ID number or by finding the image name in the folder catalogue using the drop down lists.
TecknaShop manages images internally using Image ID Numbers and each image is assigned a unique ID automatically when it is uploaded. When you chose an image by name, for example choosing an image for a product in the Catalogue section, you are in fact just using the name to select an Image ID. This is why you can change both the name and description of an image associated with a particular ID number. Most menu options that offer image selection also provide an ID field should you wish to specify the image by its ID number.
View/Overwrite image
The name field can be used to change the name of the image that is displayed
in drop down lists that refer to images. You can also browse for a new
file to associate with an Image ID number, this can be very useful because
if you need to change an image that appears in many places throughout
your store you simply select the original image in Image Options, click
View/Overwrite
and browse for the new image. The new image will be associated with the
ID number and it will be replaced everywhere it is used in your store.
Change image details
This enables you to change the name of the image and the description that
is used in the image report. To confirm any changes click the Update
and Return to Menu button.
Deleting an image
Select the image to be deleted using the folder and name drop downs lists,
check the Confirm
checkbox and click Delete.
Operational Tip: Unused images should be regularly removed from the TecknaShop libraries, as they increase the server space that your store uses, and may increase you're hosting charge as a result.
To view the report of the image folders click the Go button in the report menu. This report will display each of the image folders and the content of the folder. The report displays the image ID numbers for each image in the folder (which is hyperlinked to the image for viewing), the image name and the description.
